Cat and Dog Surgery in Hamden
When a pet needs to have surgery, it can be a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s because Spring Glen Veterinary Clinic puts your pet’s safety and comfort at the forefront. You can be confident that your pet will be in good hands during cat and dog surgery and will receive any necessary pain medications. Your pet will also be monitored before, during, and after surgery by a licensed technician.
Expectations Before and After Cat or Dog Surgery
To reduce the risk of vomiting during or after anesthesia, please withhold food from your pet 8-10 hours before surgery. Water is acceptable until the morning of the procedure. On the day of dog or cat surgery, we’ll perform a comprehensive physical exam and pre-anesthetic blood work. These tests help rule out any health issues, and reduce any risks associated with anesthesia. If any health issues are found, we can treat them and postpone the procedure. Once your pet has been cleared for surgery, we’ll administer the anesthesia and perform the procedure when your pet is completely anesthetized.
After the surgery is complete, we’ll use either dissolvable sutures or skin stitches, depending on the procedure performed. The skin stitches will have to be removed 10-14 days after surgery. You’ll need to limit your pet’s activity level during this recovery time and refrain from bathing him during the first 10 days after surgery. Please feel free to call us at 203-248-2104 any time during your pet’s recovery if you have any questions or if you have any questions about our surgical services. We’ll be glad to help.
